Hamilton Pan-Europ 701 Automatic Vintage Watch (1971)

About the Watch:

First introduced in 1971, the Pan-Europ 701 comes with a Swiss made (ETA) Hamilton caliber 821 movement. This watch features a mint condition dial with a grey field in the middle, surrounded by a unique raised minute track. The date window at 6 o'clock is framed with a gold bezel. THE gold electroplated bezel still has the factory brushing and the sides remain beautifully polished. The stainless steel caseback bears an image of a Pegasus and the crown is an original Hamilton signed crown, while the bracelet is an aftermarket elastic. It is a gorgeous watch complete with its original box and sales tag. This Swiss made beauty is telling perfect time, as to be expected as it was serviced professionally in November 2018.

It's not often that a watch from the 70s comes in such good shape and even more unlikely it has the original box. It has retained all of its original beauty because the original owner respected this watch and found value in a mechanical timepiece at a time when quartz was beginning to take over. The Pan-Europ marked the shift for Hamilton having joined the Swatch group as an official Swiss made watch brand and a new era for the nearly 100 year old company at that point. Watches have always been about history and legacy and this watch holds a place in the story of Hamilton evolving and changing with the times to survive. The proportions on this watch are perfect for those who love a silent statement that says, "if you know, you know" as it isn't a large watch, it's not overtly flashy, but it drips with class.
