Condition notes: beginning with the bezel, it is in exceptionally great shape and an original part as seen by the flat lume pip as well as the pyramid marker spilling over onto the beveled inside edge, borh signs of genuine authenticity. The crystal has scratches consistent with age and use over the years but still functional and free of any chips or major gouges. The case has pinhole size dents as well as typical scratch marks consistent with age and use but overall in very good condition. The dial has the most visible wear around the outer edge where many of the minute markers have lost their visibility. This also includes the lettering "Japan 6105" marked between the 6 and 7 hour indices, as well as the "8009" mark between the 6 and 5 indices. There is still evidence (shown as best we could under magnification) that the letter/numbers are still present in a slightly raised fashion and can be seen by the keen eye under a loup. The lume is in phenomenal condition on both the dial and all three hands and still glows with a charge! The strap is a generic aftermarket strap. Overall this watch shows that all facets of the watch, sans strap, are of genuine authenticity and in very good condition as well as provide full use and function.
Sean's Thoughts:
I love it when there is a watch in a movie that is clearly visible and can be identified, better yet when it tells us more about the character as well as the time period. The Seiko Captain Willard is the ideal example as it tells us that Martin Sheen's character needs a watch that can deliver under any circumstances. Underwater? No problem! Seconds hand stoppage (aka hacking) for true synchrony within a group? Check! Japanese made as to disassociate with the west if captured by the enemy? You got it! It is correct to the time period and useful for the Vietnam environment, but also historically accurate as many special forces wore Seikos for all of the reasons above. You too can be tough like Captain Willard if you had this watch.
